What is the course schedule?
We only reveal the schedule for the first half of the course to maintain integrity of our material.
Week 1:
Day 1:
– Introduction to SEO. Learn what SEO is. Learn the importance of SEO in digital marketing.
– Introduction to WordPress. Learn about WordPress and how to use WordPress in SEO.
– Setting Up WordPress. Teach students the basics. How to install WordPress and how to choose a hosting provider. Students will also learn to set up their own domain.
– Lunch Break
– WordPress Themes & Plugins. Discuss the purpose of themes and plugins. How to choose them, and how to install and configure them.
– Hands-On group corporate project. Students will install WordPress. Students will set up WordPress through the web host “c-panel”. Then, students will install a theme and plugins. Finally, students will customise the theme and plugins.
– End of day Q&A. Students ask questions before the end of class.
Day 2:
– Introduction to on-page SEO. Introduce the concept of on-page SEO. Students will learn to optimise the posts and pages of a WordPress website. Students will learn to add internal links and the importance of keywords. View examples of good on-page SEO web pages.
– SEO Keyword Research. Explain the importance of keyword research, how to do it, and how to use SEO tools for it.
– Lunch Break
– Hands-On group corporate project. Students will continue on their dummy website. Students will do on-page SEO, such as optimising web pages to rank for a keyword. Instructors will check your work. After approval, students will move on to the group corporate projects.
– End of day Q&A. Students ask questions before the end of class.
Week 2:
Day 3:
– Introduction to off-page SEO. Introduce the concept of off-page SEO. Learn about the role of backlinks in SEO. This includes acquiring them using off-page SEO strategies.
– Off-page SEO & link building strategies (part 1). Students will learn basic SEO strategies such as cold email and owned marketing.
– Lunch Break
– Hands-On group corporate project. Students will put in place off-page SEO strategies in their group corporate project. A teacher assistant will oversee each group.
– Incentives that webmasters care about. Talk about the incentives that webmasters care about. One example is writing messages to provide a win-win situation.
– End of day Q&A. Students ask questions before the end of class.
– Local SEO. Discuss the concept of local SEO, its importance, and how to optimise a website for local SEO.
– Discuss specific and more complicated SEO strategies. Talk about automating SEO strategies. Talk about black hat SEO strategies and what not to do in SEO.
– Hands-on off-page SEO. Students use off-page SEO to optimise their WordPress websites .
– End of day Q&A. Students ask questions before the end of class.
Day 4:
– Off-page SEO & link building strategies (part 2). Students will learn advanced SEO strategies. (e.g. skyscraper technique)
– Lunch Break
– Hands-On group corporate project. Students will use the advanced off-page SEO strategies in their group corporate project. A teacher assistant will oversee each group.
– End of day Q&A. Students ask questions before the end of class.
Week 3:
Day 5:
– Hands-On group corporate project. Students will review their off-page SEO strategies.
– Presentation. Each group will present their progress to the entire class.
– Lunch Break
– Presentation. Each group will present their progress to the entire class.
– Report. Each group will write a short report (less than 1,000 words) on their project outline and results.
– End of day Q&A. Students ask questions before the end of class.
Day 6:
– Automation of link building strategies. Students will learn about using tools. These include MajesticSEO and Hunter to automate link building.
– Perform a website audit. Students will learn to create website audits. Students will learn to analyse metrics including bounce rates and page speed.
– Lunch Break
– Hands-On group corporate project. Go over off-page SEO with students.
– Interacting with clients. Students will learn about working on digital marketing corporate projects. For example, how to find clients. How to find full-time offers and how to communicate with clients.
– Client & digital marketer role play exercise. Students will practice speaking with clients and getting digital marketing project details.
– End of day Q&A. Students ask questions before the end of class.
Projects you will complete by end of the course
At the end of the SEO & WordPress course and 4-week work experience, you will have:
Personal Dummy Project (independent project)
This is an independent project.
Example. It could be for your own business. Or a made-up business, such as a music school.
Details. Develop the music school website in WordPress. Do on-page and off-page SEO. The goal is to rank the website on Page 1 for “music lessons in singapore”.
Group Corporate Project (example)
This is a group project. Work in groups of two to five people.
Example. We assign you a task. Design the website of a digital agency.
Details. Redesign the website in WordPress. Create landing pages. Set up converting tracking. Use GA4 and Hotjar to track metrics. Test the landing pages by running ads. Look at conversion rates and make changes to get good numbers.
